Documenting CMIP6 Models and Simulations
In addition to the marked expansion of the CMIP6 project when contrasted to earlier phases, there has also been an improvement to the harmonization and standardization of approaches across the project. The ES-DOCs (Earth System Documentation) project for the first time, has coordinated and considerably expanded the collection of documentation and supporting information that goes along with the project expansion, aiming to better define experimental protocols and the individual model and modeling group adherence to these.
The Earth System Documentation (ES-DOCs) project has rationalized the set of experimental design requirements over the 316 experiment contributions to CMIP6. The project aims to be the authoritative archive of model documentation to sit alongside CMIP6 contributed data, and add further science value and utility to the archive.
The Earth System Documentation (ES-DOCs) project has revolutionized the way that model documentation is collected. Alongside the CMIP6 data request, it ensures that the latest CMIP phase is the most consistent, verifiable, and coherent delivery of climate model data and documentation, with the ability for contributors to update the documentation in an iterative process, always ensuring the latest information is available.
