Abstract

The E3SM Atmosphere Model in C++ (EAMxx) is a new global model which uses the Kokkos C++ library to achieve excellent performance on GPUs and other emerging architectures. Recent advances in computing disproportionately benefit very high-resolution simulations, enabling breakthroughs in global storm-resolving models (GSRMs). In this talk, I will describe the EAMxx strategy, present results from the first EAMxx GSRM simulations, and discuss future opportunities in this space.
