Climate Workflow Automation and Optimization on DOE Resources
This work is about accelerating science output by decreasing the workload on the scientist. This is done with automation of common tasks and keeping track of the work accomplished, or provenance. Many of the steps in the climate workflow depends on a human to launch them, which are delayed due to a person not constantly monitoring the workflow. The gains that can be had from automating the end to end workflow are the elimination of gaps related to needing a person running the next step of the workflow. This can be a savings of a day or two every time through the workflow. As the workflows are continuously being run, this can lead to savings of a week or two over the course of a year for every group running a workflow.
