William Collins Named AAAS Fellow
Bill Collins, a climate scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Collins is recognized for "distinguished contributions to the field of climate science through fundamental research on interactions among sunlight, heat, the coupled climate system, and global environmental change."
Serving now as Chief Scientist for the Accelerated Climate Modeling for Energy (ACME) project, sponsored by the Earth System Modeling program within the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Biological and Environmental Research, Collins is an internationally recognized expert in climate modeling and climate change science. ACME is an unprecedented collaboration among eight national laboratories and six partner institutions to develop and apply the most complete, leading-edge climate and Earth system models to challenging and demanding climate-change research imperatives.
Collins was recently honored at the 2014 AAAF Fellows Forum during the 2015 AAAS Annual Meeting in San Jose, California.
