Compo et al. Article Makes Geophysical Research Letters Cover
Congratulations to Gilbert Compo et al. on making the cover of Geophysical Research Letters! The article, "Independent confirmation of global land warming without the use
of station temperatures," found observed global land warming can be reproduced using ocean data and surface pressure observations in a state-of-the-art data assimilation system called the 20th Century Reanalysis (20CR). Though other researchers claim warming is an artifact of deficiencies in land station temperature measurements, Compo et al. found this is not the case. An independent 20CR dataset reproduced both annual variations and centennial trends found in the observational near-surface air temperature datasets, thus providing important confirmation for previous scientific conclusions and evidence for climate policies based on them in regards to global warming.
