Coaxing Explicit Marine Stratocumulus into an "Ultraparameterized" CESM
Results are presented from a prototype version of the superparameterized CESM that refines its default embedded horizontal/vertical resolution (4 km / 500-m) down to include the outer scales of marine boundary layer turbulence (250-m / 20-m). Progress, puzzles, and glimmers of fledgling low clouds are discussed in the context of an overarching goal -- to more plausibly represent low cloud physics for improved cloud feedback assessment.
