Changes in Tropical Cyclone Precipitation Efficiency
The effect of global warming on mean and extreme precipitation should not be expected to be the same for all classes of storms. We compare the statistics of precipitation aggregated over all storm types to that from tropical storms only using both observations and a high-resolution climate model. Changes as the climate warms in the distribution of extreme precipitation are compared including long period return values. Changes in tropical cyclone precipitation efficiency are investigated to partially explain the super Clausius-Clapeyron scaling presented in recent storyline extreme event attribution studies.
