06) Recent Streamflow Trends Across Permafrost Basins of North America
We evaluated a number of streamflow records across the North American Arctic to assess how arctic hydrology has responded to warming. We found that although climate remains the primary driver of decadal streamflow trends, permafrost-dominated watersheds consistently showed increasing minimum streamflow over the previous four decades. Our findings are reflective of deepening active layers and thawing permafrost and provide another piece of the thawing arctic hydrology puzzle.
