RGCM Colleagues Receive AGU Section Awards
Three Regional and Global Climate Modeling (RGCM) scientists recently received American Geophysical Union (AGU) Section Awards for their outstanding contributions to science. They will be honored during the AGU Fall Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, in December.
RGCM’s Clara Deser was honored in the atmospheric sciences section, and James Randerson and Linda Mearns were honored in the global environmental change focus group.
Deser, senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, received the annual Jacob Bjerknes Lecture award. The Bjerknes Lecture honors the life of Jacob Aall Bonnevie Bjerknes and his work in weather prediction and development of quantitative models. Deser will present the Bjerknes Lecture during the AGU Meeting.
Randerson, earth system scientist at University of California, Irvine, was honored with the Piers J. Sellers Global Environmental Change Mid-Career Award. He was recognized for outstanding contributions in research, educational or societal impacts, especially through interdisciplinary approaches.
Mearns, senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, received the annual Stephen Schneider Lecture award. She was recognized for communicating scientific results to the public.
