RGCM Colleagues Elected to AMS and AGU Fellowships

Distinguished Regional and Global Climate Modeling’s (RGCM) scientists Bill Gutowski, Iowa State University, has been elected as a 2017 Fellow for the American Meteorological Society (AMS). RGCM colleague Fei Fei Jin, University of Hawaii at Manoa, was also honored with a 2016 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fellowship.

Gutowski, principal investigator of RGCM’s A Hierarchical Evaluation Framework for Assessing Climate Simulations Relevant to the Energy-Water-Land Nexus project was chosen by AMS for making “outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences or their applications during a substantial period of years.” Each year, individual AMS members are honored for exceptional scientific contributions and acknowledged in the fields of atmospheric, or related oceanic, or hydrologic sciences. No more than 0.1 percent of the organization's 13,000-member of the total worldwide membership are recognized annually.

Jin, principal investigator of RGCM’s Assessing El Nino-Southern Oscillation Regime Changes in a Changing Climate project, was honored during the 2016 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. He will join the class of scientists being honored by AGU for “exceptional scientific contribution and attained acknowledged eminence in the fields of earth and space science.”  Each year, individual AGU members are honored for thier exemplary work in the fields of Earth and space sciences. Since the AGU Fellows program was established in 1962, no more than 0.1 percent of the organization’s 62,000-member of the total worldwide membership are recognized annually.
